Nilkanth Halarnkar Dragged in Housing Board Land Scam

Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar who had hauled State Vigilance officers to the court for not filing FIR in a land scam allegedly involving Housing Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, on Monday alleged that records of the Housing Board meetings are manipulated.
They pointed out that as per the Board records Avinash Bhosle is stated to have chaired the board meeting in May 2010 in the absence of the Chairman Francisco Pacheco. However, at that point of time Avinash was not even a member of the Board and therefore could not have chaired the meeting, they argued.

These developments have been brought to the notice of the Judicial Magistrate First Class that had issued notices to Superintendent of Police Bosco George and Police Inspector Nilesh Rane for failing to register the case in the alleged land scam.
Although the officers had sought three weeks time to appoint a lawyer and filed their say, the court has directed them to file their reply on next Monday.
Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar had approached the JMFC alleging that the Vigilance Department did not register the complaint with regards to conversion of Goa Housing Board land at Colvale where the land that was acquired for setting up a housing project has now been allotted to Nilkanth Halarnkar Trust causing a loss to the state exchequer to the tune of Rs 57 lakh.
Besides, they also alleged that 23,000 square metres of land was allotted to an institute of hotel management at a throwaway price of Rs 1,000 per square metres when the market rate was around Rs 4,200 square metres thereby causing a further loss of around Rs 7.36 crore.
