Tourism Minister Nilkhant Halarnkar after personally seeing the filth at the famous Colva beach and experiencing the resultant stench, has promised to clean up the beach within a few days. However, he sought time to deal with the polluted creek.
Visiting South Goa most popular beach on Thursday afternoon, he said he would have to consult the Health Department and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority to deal with the contaminated creek present at the shore.
The minister who visited the beach accompanied by PWD Minister Churchill Alemao received a lot of complaints and suggestions with the Colva Panchayat submitting an official memorandum to him which demanded immediate stoppage to the release of sewage in the creek.
Aspiring MLA Valanka Alemao who was also present, asked the minister to immediately repair the high mast to illuminate the beach and also urged him to provide mobile toilets to prevent further contamination of the creek.
Nilkhant also visited the place acquired by the government for creating public utility by displacing traditional fishermen. Churchill pleaded with the Tourism Minister to provide some space for the traditional fishermen to carry on their activity as they have been totally displaced.
