Nine women housed at the protective home at Merces managed to flee from the premises but were later traced by the police and brought back to the house.
On Thursday morning, inmates of the protective home began protesting against their continuous stay there by assembly behind the main gate and screaming for help to all the passers by.
As the protest intensified, nine of them managed to jump over the gate and run away in the village. However, Old Goa police succeeded in tracing all of them and they were later brought back to the home.
All nine are women who were rescued from prostitution rackets in different parts of North Goa and are supposed to be either rehabilitated or released within a fortnight. However, they have been housed in the home for nearly three months.
