No decision on GPCC till mid-September

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) appears to be in no hurry to steady the party affairs in Goa after the Assembly Elections debacle.

Senior leaders in-charge of state-wise party affairs have told that no decision will be taken on the restructuring of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) till post the current Parliamentary session which ends on September 10th.

Subash Shirodkar continues to function as the President. His resignation will accepted in the re-shuffling process. The Congress high command has firmed up it decision to put a Catholic candidate at the helm of affairs in GPCC.

And while Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco’s name is being proposed by the elected representatives in Goa, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha up till now continues to emerge as a preferred leader according to the Congress decision makers at the Centre.

However, serious attempts are being made to bring in a Hindu candidate as President with names of Jitendra Deshprabhu, Ramakant Khalap and even former minister Ravi Naik doing the rounds.

But it appears that AICC president in an act to woo the minority voters back will opt for a Catholic candidate as the leader of the Oppostion is already a Hindu, expressed a senior Congress leader.

However, until a decision is taken confusion and contradictions continue within the Congress party in Goa.
