No Detention Can’t Be Implemented: GHA

The Goa Headmasters Association (GHA) while pointing out that it is not possible to implement the government’s “no detention” policy as neither the modalities nor the criteria has been prescribed by the Education Department, said schools will adhere to the earlier guidelines issued by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

GHA President Sanjiv Sawant said the government circular should have come before the results for the last academic year were declared and not after the academic year had concluded and pointed out the need for the government to withdraw the earlier policy which permitted detention.
He pointed out that many students who had failed, sought admission to a different school and are now in a dilemma as it is not clear whether the new school will admit them to the higher class to which they will be promoted as per the government’s new policy.
The Education Department issued a circular on 6th May stating that no student should be detained in class I to VIII.
