We The People, a non-governmental organization while accusing the government of using education for electoral gains has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the “no detention” circular issued by the Education Department.
President Pravin Faldessai argued that the Education Department should have implemented the Right to Education Act in its totality rather than using only those sections that benefit the ruling dispensation.
He alleged that the “no detention” policy is sought to be introduced in such a hurry only to curry favour with parents so that they are induced to vote for the government at the ensuing assembly elections.
To support his charge of the circular being politically motivated, Faldessai pointed out that it was issued long after the results were declared and also without guidelines, which he said exposed the true intention of the government. He added that the circular was absolutely illegal/
Faldessai opined that others aspects of the RTE were more important like the ban on capitation fee or donation, ban on screening test of students and also prohibiting the deployment of teachers to non-teaching duties.
