Even though there are objections to certain provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the Education Department is seeking to implement those provisions that have not been objected to. The department has sought the government’s approval to implement the “no detention” policy envisaged in the Act and accordingly moved a note that no student should be detained or expelled from the school up to Std. VIII.
While implementing this “no detention” police, besides the regular examinations, students will be accessed continuously and those found to be weak or slow in learning will be given special or remedial classes.
The RTE Act provides for regular meetings with parents or guardians of the student to discuss the performance of the student including attendance, which is also sought to be implemented in Goa.
While the RTE Act is expected to be implemented from the 2012-2013 academic year, the “no detention” policy is sought to be implemented from the next academic year itself.
