New Delhi: Supreme Court of India has dismissed the plea filed by Bishop Franco Mulakkal to drop charges filed by a 44-year old nun was accused the Catholic Church leader of repeated rape and sodomy.
The Chief Justice of India told Bishop Franco Mulakkal, “You don’t have a case. There is no merit in your plea.”
The Kottayam Trial Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the senior clergyman. He has not been arrested so far on grounds of being COVID-19 positive. Now that the SC has ruled against the the plan of rape accused Bishop to drop charges against him, GoaChronicle.com has learned that his arrest will be imminent.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal is the first Bishop of the Catholic Church in India to be arrested for raping and sodomising a nun. He was released on conditional bail. His bail was cancelled three-weeks ago by the Trial Court in Kerala for non-appearance 14-times for the Court case hearings even after being warned.
The Catholic Church of India has maintained a stoic silence on this case, even during the time when the innocent nuns were targeted.
