No Need For Second Autopsy: Shetye

Sub Divisional Magistrare Sabaji Shetye probing the alleged custodial death case of Cipriano Fernandes, has refused permission for a second autopsy stating that there is no need for it.
The family member of Cipriano led by his cousin Cosme had demanded a second autopsy by a medical board even though the post mortem report noted that he had six injuries including on his head.
Sabaji Shetye has advised Cipriano’s family members to meet the doctors who conducted the first post mortem to clarify their doubts.

Cipriano, a 39 year old seafarer, was arrested on 7th January by the Panjim police after his girlfriend complained that he had threatened her.  Cipriano died at 6:45 on 9th morning at Goa Medical College Hospital where he was admitted at around 11:55 am on 8th January.
The family members have refused to take over Cipriano’s body after the post mortem. Inspector Sandesh Chodankar and four other police personnel are under scanner for his death.
Cypriano’s cousin Cosme fernandes said that the request for second autopsy was to ascertain that all the injuries are covered. The first post mortem done by a team of doctors from the Goa medical College had confirmed six injuries on Cypriano’s body.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bossuet Silva has been appointed to conduct departmental inquiry to probe whether there was misconduct and procedural lapse on the part of the police after Cypriano was arrested.
