Panjim: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that government has not taken any decision with regards to regulated cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purpose in the state.
Addressing a press conference at his official residence in the city, the Chief Minister also accused the opposition of attacking the government without having any reason to do so.
‘Government has not considered any proposal. The proposal had come and files had moved from one department to another but that does not mean that proposal has been accepted. The proposal had gone to law department and health department for vetting but that does not mean that the government is going ahead with the proposal. At present government is not going ahead with it,’ he said.
However, he added that some states had passed bills which allow cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purpose.
The Chief Minister said that opposition parties were criticising the government as they were not finding any issue to do so.
Government started receiving flak after one of the cabinet colleagues of Dr Sawant said that government was considering legalising cannabis cultivation.
Law Minister Nilesh Cabral had said, while speaking to media, that his department had vetted the file from legal perspective after receiving it from the health department.
