No Rouhani-Trump meet on sidelines of UNGA yet: Foreign Ministry

Tehran, Sep 16 (GCCurrentAffairs) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani does not plan to meet US leader Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said Monday.
“I cannot confirm this,” Mousavi told a press conference, when asked if the two leaders might meet.
According to the spokesman, Rouhani’s agenda does not include such a meeting with Trump in New York.
He pointed out that the meeting with US representatives was possible only within the P5+1 group in case Washington stopped “economic terrorism” against Iran.
Ali Rabiei, the Iranian government spokesman, meanwhile, stated Tehran did not intend to hold negotiations with the United States in current circumstances.
“We do not see any signals of veracity [to hold talks] from the United States. If the current situation continues, there will be no possibility for the two presidents to meet,” Rabiei said during the press conference.
According to the Iranian official, lifting of the US sanctions against Iran is a condition that could lead to the beginning of “constructive diplomacy.”
“The United States must lift all the sanctions against Iran before new negotiations,” Rabiei said, adding that Tehran was working to deepen and expand its relations with the neighboring countries, while the lack of security in the region was in no one’s interests.
Earlier in the day, Trump said reports of his alleged readiness to hold a meeting with Iran with no conditions were false.
