Notice To State Govt. For Violating Election Code

The State Election Commission has issued notice to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led State government for violating model code of conduct, imposed due to the upcoming Cortalim by-elections on 2nd June.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently announced that the state will not go ahead with the marina project proposed at Sancoale village in Cortalim Assembly constituency. The state cabinet had also announced regularisation of workers employed for eradicating malaria.

The Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti issued notice to the chief secretary and advised the government to refrain from making such announcements till the process of by-election to Cortalim constituency was not over.

The by-election was necessitated following the sudden demise of Tourism Minister Matanhy Saldanha, who died of cardiac arrest.
