Notices To Eight Mines for Violating Mines Act

Eight mining firms were issued notices on Friday by the State Mines and Geology Department for violating the norms under the Mines Act by overloading trucks with iron ore in Caurem and Rivona areas.

Mines Director Prasanna Acharya informed that notices were issued as the trucks operating for their mining leases were found overloading.

The department has given time limit of 8 days to the mining firms to explain the dereliction, failing which; action would be taken under the Mines Act. The ore overloaded in trucks eventually gets spilled on the roads and creates nuisance in the mining belt.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier instructed the Mines Department to hold the mine-owners responsible for the violation of overloading.
