Notifications Banning Victory Processions, Closure Of Commercial Establishments Issued

The district magistrate has issued two notifications on Friday under section 144 of Criminal Procedures Code (CrPC). One notification states banning of victory processions and bursting of fire crackers by candidates or their supporters between 9 p.m. from 13th march to 6 a.m. of 14th March, while the other orders closure of commercial establishments located within the radius of 100 metres of each of the Polling Stations in the jurisdiction of CCP on the polling day.

District Collector Mihir Vardhan said these measures have been taken to maintain law and order situation as the polling and the counting will be held on the same day as the Police had raised apprehension about the consequences of the victory processions.
Vardhan, in the notification, stated: “It was brought to our notice that most of the commercial establishments within 100 meters of polling booths remain crowded with the supporters of different candidates, leading to problems”.
