Omar detained under PSA, sister moves SC

New Delhi, Feb 10 (GCCurrentAffairs) Sarah Abdullah Pilot, sister of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Monday moved the Supreme Court, challenging the detention order of her brother under the Public Safety Act.
Mr Abdullah has remained under detention since August 5, when Article 370 was scrapped from Jammu and Kashmir, under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Just before the completion of six months on February 5, fresh detention orders were issued against two former Chief Ministers of the erstwhile state, including Mr Abdullah.
Moving the petition, Kapil Sibal, Counsel of Ms Pilot, contended before a bench headed by Justice N V Ramana that the detention order was based purely on political reasons.
Mere opposition to the policy of the Central government is being projected as against national interest to justify the detention, stated the petition. Therefore, the detention order is not justifiable under the PSA, the senior lawyer added.
