This was stated by Goa health minister Laxmikant Parsekar in his written reply to a starred question by Margao Congress MLA Digambar Kamat in the Goa legislative assembly on Monday.
“The list of the illegal spas and massage parlours has been forwarded to the respective police stations for further action”, Parsekar said.
Following complaints, the Goa health department conducted inspections in 74 massage parlours and/or spas across the state and found that they did not possess valid licenses from the health department.
The spas and massage parlours are allegedly used as fronts for prostitution rackets. The girls working at these establishments are ‘rescued’ while the alleged pimps are arrested.
Often the police raids are prompted by local people who oppose this activity in their neighbourhoods.
Parsekar also said that instructions have been issued to conduct inspections on all registered spas and a check list for such inspections has also been designed.
