Goa which ranks favourably on practically all fronts in comparison with other States, appears to be also quite an honest state or at least that is what official figures indicate. In the year 2010 only two government officers were booked by the Anti-Corruption Branch according to information provided by the Vigilance Department to Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act.
The only two officials booked for corruption last year are P K Patidar, Registrar of Co-operative Societies and Subhash Velip, a Talathi in the office of the Mamlatdar of Quepem.
Adv. Rodrigues stated that this was a poor reflection on the anti-corruption departments and alleged that they are not doing their work. He also stressed the need to have the Lokayukta appointed immediately to check the rampant corruption prevalent in Goa.
