Oppn boycotts Constitution Day celebrations in Parliament; accuses BJP of ‘murdering democracy’

New Delhi, Nov 26(GCCurrentAffairs) Accusing the BJP of ‘murdering the democracy’, main Opposition parties’ leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, boycotted the 70th Constitution Day celebrations in the Central hall of Parliament on Tuesday.

Apart from Congress, leaders and MPs of all Opposition parties, including Trinamool Congress, DMK, Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal stood united in protest in front of Father of the Constitution Bhimrao Ambedkar’s statue in Parliament.

The protesting leaders included Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress’ Kalyan Banerjee, Nationalist Congress Party’s Majid Menon, Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, A Raja of the DMK, Shafiqur Rahman of the Bahujan Samaj Party, among others.

These leaders carried placards and banners in their hands and demonstrated against the policies of the government on which slogans like ‘Stop killing democracy’, ‘Save the Constitution’ were written.

Ms Gandhi also read a copy of the Constitution in front of the Dr Ambedkar’s statue in Parliament premises while protesting against the government formation in Maharashtra by BJP.

Earlier, these leaders paid tribute to the martyred soldiers in the 26/11 Mumbai attack by observing silence for some time.
