Opposition misleading a section of society on CAA for vote bank: Shah

Hajipur, Jan 16 (GCCurrentAffairs) Union Home Minister Amit Shah today accused Congress and other opposition parties of misleading a section of the society on the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for vote bank politics and reiterated that CAA was enforced to grant citizenship to those who need it under its purview as the new Act was not aimed at depriving any one of citizenship.
Mr Shah while addressing a public meeting organised here to create awareness among the people on CAA, said that the new Act was enforced to grant citizenship to millions of people who had left Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh after facing humiliations and harassments in these countries due to their religions.
A large number of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Jains and Persians had left these three countries and settled in India in search of livelihood and also for safety and security of their lives, he said and added that Narendra Modi government had decided to grant citizenship to them under CAA.
The Union Home Minister said, Congress had committed blunder by dividing India on the basis of religion. When a separate nation Pakistan was created after division of the country, population of minorities was 30 per cent in West Pakistan and East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, he said adding that population of minorities had decreased to 3 per cent in West Pakistan while in Bangladesh, it was 7 per cent.
The Opposition making much hue and cry over CAA, should come out with explanation how population of minorities got reduced in neighbouring country, he said adding that they had either been chased away or killed in Pakistan or Bangladesh. A large number of them had also been forced to change their religions, he apprehended.
Mr Shah said, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were trying to take political mileage of CAA by misleading a section of the society. They could not think in national interest and often found indulged in vote bank politics, he said adding that languages used by them were identical of that of Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
