Panaji: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Goa President Jose Philip D’Souza on Thursday said that there was a need for a pre-poll alliance between the opposition parties in the state.
Speaking to reporters at the party office in the city, he said,”If an alliance happens, it will help all. It will prevent division of secular votes. We need to come together. Future will be bright if all the like minded parties come together.”
”In 2017 we went to Delhi and met Congress leaders. Our leader Praful Patel was there. We tried to have an alliance but could not succeed. If this time division is to be prevented, then alliance is a must. If the opposition is divided then it will help other parties,” he said.
He said the party was prepared for the assembly elections which are scheduled to be held early next year.
“We are prepared even if the elections are held early,” he said.
D’Souza claimed that even former ministers were interested in joining the NCP.
However, he did not reveal the names of those interested candidates saying it would not be proper to disclose the names so early.
