Panjim by-poll on May 19

Panjim: The Election Commission of India of India has announced May 19, 2019 as the by-poll date for the Panjim constituency.

The Panjim constituency was left vacant after the untimely demise of its Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and former Chief Minister of Goa Late Manohar Parrikar.

Sources in the BJP have revealed that there is a possibility of Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar of filling in his father shoes or former MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar who vacated the seat for Parrikar after he moved out of the Ministry of Defence to take charge of Goa.

Atanasio (Babush) Monseratte has been vying for the Panjim constituency for years and also plans to leave Goa Forward Party (GFP) to contest the election if GFP decides not to contest in the Panjim by-poll because of being a part of the alliance.
