With the notification specifying the delimitation of the 30 wards of City Corporation of Panjim published, it is now believed that the elections to this only city corporation in the State will be held in March next year.
The term of the present corporation ends on 20th March and hence it is believed that the elections will be held before the term expires.
The notification was delayed due to attempts by three corporators – Deputy Mayor Yatin Parekh, Uday Madkaikar and Rudresh Chodankar – to manipulate the reservation to suit their or their friends’ interest.
It is learnt that Yatin wanted ward No. 13 which is reserved for women to be de-reserved to help his friend Prasad Amonkar while Uday wanted 400 voters listed in the Taleigao Panchayat to be transferred to his ward No. 17.
However, the Municipal Administration stuck to their guns and even the trios attempts to use the chief minister’s influence did not help.
