The capital city of Panjim will be modeled on the lines of the picturesque city of Nice in France, if the plans of the Tourism Department finally fructify as modalities are being worked out for collaboration between the two cities to handle urban transportation and solid waste management.
Tourism Director Swapnil Naik admitted that a technical team from Nice has been invited to Goa to study the ground realities and suggest a plan of action.
After consultations with the City Corporation of Panaji, a delegation from Goa is also likely to visit Nice to get a first hand look at how that city manages its affairs.
Nice, like Goa, is a tourist destination and has quite competently handled the transportation problem and the same is sought to be replicated in Panjim where a large number of tourists descend every year.
Dedicated streets for pedestrians, cycles and use of fuel efficient cars including electric cars are on the anvil as is being done in Nice, said Naik.
