Transport Minister Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar announced that the government was considering laying of a parallel railway track along the Konkan Railway Corporation’s line from Canacona to Pernem in a bid to decongest the traffic on the roads.
Replying to the cut motions on demands for Transport Department where the department came in for severe criticism for its failure to decongest the roads in Goa, he said the parallel railway line will be laid through the Konkan Railway Corporation and will provide for requisite rail over and under bridges.
He also pointed out that the Central Road Research Institute has been assigned the task of bringing about road discipline in Goa and added that Rs. 33 lakhs have already been paid to the institute which is given 15 months time to complete the work.
Listing out the various initiatives undertaken by the department, he said two bus stands, one at Quepem and the other at Sanguem are on the anvil along with the ultra modern bus terminal at Margao.
He also pointed out the department has already cracked the whip against mining trucks violating norms.
