Parrikar co-accused in Rs 2998 crore Mala Land scam, alleges Deshprabhu

Alleging that the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is trying to subvert the investigations into the Mala Land Scam in which he is a co-accused along with former NCP Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar (who was Chairman of the North Goa Public Development Authortity) at time of this land deal, along with other government officials; Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson, Jitendra Deshprabhu said that the then Opposition Leader Parrikar was one of the members on the board and worked in collusion with certain government officials and politicians to favor a Gujarat-based company Kanaka Infratech Ltd who was already black-listed by the Economic Development Council (EDC).

It may be recalled the Mala Land deal with a land size of 44,000 sqmts was giving to Kanaka Infratech for a paltry sum of Rs 1 per sqmt to be paid annually for a lease of 60 years. Civil society activists had lodged an F.I.R at the Police Head Quarters to investigate into the matter. The then Congress government had approached the High Court to grant a stay on the investigations, a petition which was declined and the police authorities were to continue with the investigations. However, so far there has been no progress on the investigations into the alleged corruption case.

Deshprabhu intends to raise the matter with the Congress High Command and alternatively file a complaint on the issue with the Central Vigilance Authority and Central Bureau of Investigations to investigate into the matter, since, there has been no progress at state-level.

Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco has also been named in the F.I.R, since he took after the reigns of NGPDA from Nilkanth Halarnkar
