Benaulim MLA Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco on Saturday said he has been called to New Delhi for a meeting with party boss Sharad Pawar to discuss issues raised by the Goa unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
A confident Pacheco told GoaChronicle.com, “All the important issues will be resolved”.
He also said that the NCP high command has already been briefed of the situation dogging the party unit in Goa. “The high command is seized of the matter and is going to act soon,” the former tourism minister said.
It may be recalled that Pacheco and his supporters in the NCP had threatened to leave the party and float a new outfit if the current situation continued. Their contention was that the sentiments of the executive members had not been respected by the high command. In a veiled threat, they had even hinted at plans of floating a regional party.
A week ago, NCP central leader Praful Patel spoke to Pacheco and coaxed him not to take any drastic decision. He is believed to have assured Pacheco that the NCP high command would take a decision to the satisfaction of the local leaders.
In Pune, Pawar had spoken in favour of getting the party’s two ministers-Jose Philip D’Souza and Nilkanth Halarnkar, dropped from the fold.
Pacheco had also complained that although D’Souza and Halarnkar had defied the high command directive to resign from the cabinet, no action was being taken against them.
