Washington: US Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris took the stage in their sole debate for the 2020 race in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The face-off, moderated by USA Today Washington bureau chief Susan Page, comes as the White House is grappling with a COVID-19 outbreak that has infected a growing number of individuals, including President Donald Trump.
On the debate stage, Pence and Harris, both of whom tested negative earlier in the day, are separated by more than 12 feet of distance, with two plexiglass barriers between them.
Election Day falls on Nov. 3 this year, while early voting, either in-person or by mail, has already started in some states, says a Xinhua news report.
According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Democratic presidential nominee and former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is leading Trump by 9.7 percentage points nationally and 4.6 points in top battleground states, as of Wednesday.
