People stage sit-in dharna in front of AR Police Camp demanding release of Ayyappa devotees

Sabarimala, Nov 19 (GCCurrentAffairs) Demanding the release 68 Ayyappa devotees who were housed in Maniyar AR Police Camp after their arrest from Lord Ayyappa temple in the wee hours on Monday, hundreds of people thronged there and staged a sit-in-dharna.

After the news spread that the arrested devotees were brought to the AR Camp, hundreds of people rushed there and began a dharna led by BJP Kerala General Secretary Sobha Surendran demanding unconditional release of the arrested pilgrims.

Talking to newspersons here, the BJP leader demanded the release of pilgrims and send back them to the hillock temple for performing their Darshan and other pending rituals.

However, police is planning to register non-bailable cases and send them to the jail, she alleged.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will observe a”Protest Day” in the state today objecting the unlawful arrest of devotees from Sannidanam, the abode of Lord Ayyappa.

Hindu Aikyavedi President KP Sasikala along with her family including two children began trekking from Pamba to Sannidanam this morning.

Earlier, KP Sasikala was arrested from Marakkuttam a few kilometres away from Sannidanam, have been released on bail.

A state-wide dawn-to-dusk hartal was also observed by the Sangh Parivar organizations following her arrest.

The State also witnessed spontaneous protest marches to police stations, Secretariat and residence of the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, BJP announced that the party will stage a protest march to a function of KUWJ in Kozhikode where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event.
