Panjim: Post the state-level criticism BJP Goa received for the induction of an accused with links to the drug-mafia Roy Naik into the BJP Unit in Goa earlier this month; now the party with a difference finds itself in another embarrassing situation over photos of the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and BJP MLA Dayanand Sopte with a drug peddler Kapil Jhaveri having gone viral on social media.
Kapil Jhaveri was arrested last week at illegal rave party in North Goa for organising an unauthorised party and for drug peddling found at the party.
Jhaveri, a small time Bollywood actor and a director of a co-operative society, was arrested in a rave party at a North Goa beach village on Sunday.
In a press note released to the media by Chief Minister of Goa’s office stated, “The picture may have been a courtesy call last year after the CM had taken over.”
But strangely the picture Kapil Jhaveri had put out on a social media platform of his meeting with Goa Chief Minister shows a date of April 24th, 2020 this year.
Refuting the allegations and defending himself Gaude tweeted, “My photo alongside Kapil Jhaveri is made viral with false info. He had sought an appointment to invite me for the inauguration of a branch of a Credit Society. As a Minister of Co-operation, I refrain from any act of endorsement. I had refused the invitation on these grounds.” Later, speaking to reporters he said he was a “public figure” and many people come to meet him and that there was no scope for examining everyone’s background.
“I have spoken to the Chief Minister. He has informed me that the police have been given a free hand to investigate the case. It is my prime duty to co-operate with the police,” he said.
Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and BJP MLA Dayanand Sopte have not commented on the issue yet.
