The disenchantment with the Congress is so great that Bharatiya Janata Party haters like Arvind Bhatikar are today forced to support its candidates for the City Corporation of Panaji elections. In fact, nearly half the candidates supported by the Panjimites Initiative for Change (PINC) launched by Arvind Bhatikar and Dr. Oscar Rebello belong to Panaji First, the BJP backed panel.
Besides lashing out at those involved in corruption and mismanagement of the city affairs, PINC has also launched a door-to-door campaign to urge people to bring about a change and identified candidates that will help to bring about the change.
At a media briefing held recently, the PINC identified 29 candidates including NCP General Secretary Avinash Bhonsle and three other NCP backed candidates. It has also supported the candidature of Advocate Aires Rodrigues in Ribandar and extended support to 15 candidates belonging the Panaji first.
Dr Rebello said PINC is giving people a choice of young and clean candidates. PINC is an experiment whose results will be worth watching as it is coming together of professionals who are trying to motivate the middle class that generally stays away from civic polls to make a difference.
