GOA, December 22 (GCCurrentAffairs): The local court granted police custody till January 2 to a Tamil Nadu origin man arrested in Goa for raping 48-year-old British woman on the way to Palolem beach during wee hours of Thursday.
Ramchandran Y, 31, was arrested by Goa Police hours after he raped and robbed a British woman on the way to Palolem beach in Canacona taluka of South Goa.
Canacona Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai said that the accused who was arrested within hours of the crime was produced before local court, and was granted police custody till January 02, 2019.
The accused had allegedly followed the British woman who was walking from Railway Station and going towards Palolem Beach on her room.
Police complaint filed by the woman accused the man of raping her by pushing in nearby paddy field and running away with her belongings, including bags.
Prabhudesai said that the medical examination was conducted on the victim.
“The accused, who had fled from Canacona after the incident was arrested in Margao town, 60 kms away, as he was wanted in connection with another robbery at Pernem town in North Goa,” Prabhudesai said.
During the interrogation, the accused was found in possession of an ATM card belonging to british woman.
When questioned further, the accused confessed his involvement in the rape and robbery at Canacona, which had happened few hours earlier.
