Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panjim; Shabnam Shaikh on Monday ordered Goa Police and the anti-corruption bureau (ABC) of the vigilance department to register First Information Report (FIR) within 24 hours into the Goa Housing Board (GHB), Colvale land scam involving GHB Chairman Nilkanth Halarnkar. The police have also been directed to file a report within 15 days of the FIR stating steps taken by them in this regard and the status of the investigation.
JMFC Shabnam Shaikh passed the order after hearing an application filed by complainant Kashinath Shetye and 12 others to the ABC of vigilance department stating that the land situated in Colvale acquired by the Goa Housing Board for a housing project was allotted to Halarnkar Charitable Trust run by Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar.
The complainants also alleged that some of the plots allotted to the Trust were at the market rate of Rs 1600 per square metre but later on when the tourism minister was appointed as the GHB chairman, he misused his position to grab other plots at the same price when the market rate of the same had increased to Rs 3000 per square metre. They also informed that this had resulted in a loss of more than Rs 57 lakh to the exchequer.
