Police register case of forgery against Parish Priest

Colva Police today registered an offence of cheating and forgery against Fr. Urbano Menezes Parish Priest of Majorda who is also the Manager of  Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School at Majorda and Trevor Barreto the Principal of the school. Police Sub Inspector Tulshidas Naik is investigating the case under the supervision of Colva Police Inspector Nilesh Rane.

Acting on a complaint filed by Adv. Aires Rodrigues today, the Colva Police registered offences under Sections 417,463, 467, 468, 471 and 474 read with Section 120 B of Indian Penal Code against Fr Urbano Menezes and Mr. Trevor Barretto. Mr. Luis Ricardo Menezes and Mr. Leonardo Martinho Menezes both younger brothers of Fr Urbano Menezes hailing from Chinchinim and now working in the United Kingdom have also been named as co-accused in the F.I.R Adv. Aires Rodrigues in his complaint to the Colva Police stated that  Trevor Barreto issued a false and fabricated certificate dated 4/8/2010 that Luis Ricardo Menezes was working in the Higher Secondary School office as an office boy from 6th June 1999 to 4th August 2010.  Trevor Barreto further issued another false and fabricated certificate dated 9/9/11 that Leonardo Martinho Menezes was working in the Higher Secondary School office as an office boy from 04.06.2004 to 08.09.2011.

Luis Ricardo Menezes and Leonardo Martinho Menezes both brothers of accused Fr. Urbano Menezes used these bogus and fabricated certificates to fraudulently obtain employment in the United Kingdom.

After the employers in the United Kingdom wrote to Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School to verify the authencity of the certificates issued, Fr. Urbano Menezes, and Trevor Barreto, Principal, wrote back to the employers in the United Kingdom confirming the authencity of the certificates and that they were genuine though the certificates issued were false and fabricated.

Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act sought details of the staff working at Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School Majorda and it was revealed that Luis Menezes and Leonardo Menezes were never employees of the school.

Adv. Rodrigues in his complaint to the Colva Police today stated that Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School Majorda was a Government of Goa aided institution and that the  offences of cheating and forgery were all the more grave and serious since it was committed by Principal and the Manager of the Institution.

Stating that the fraudulent and collusive design of Fr. Urbano Menezes, Trevor Barreto,  Luis Ricardo Menezes and Leonardo Martinho Menezes were serious offences Adv. Rodrigues urged the police to act swiftly to deter other persons who may attempt to commit such offences.

Meanwhile Adv. Aires Rodrigues has today urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to order a probe whether such bogus certificates were also being issued by other schools “Educational institutions should be producing good citizens and not be manufacturing bogus and fabricated certificates” stated Adv. Rodrigues.
