Political Temple Run

Politicians in India nowadays are getting badly desperate to show their Hindu identity. Those who find ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant communal are suddenly started chanting Chandi Paath. On Tuesday while addressing a political rally in Nandigram, West Bengal sitting chief minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee has suddenly decided to contest the upcoming assembly elections and started chanting the Chandi Paath on stage. However she was the one who got irritated few time ago when crowd chanted the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Netaji event organized in Kolkata, West Bengal in presence of PM Modi and walked off from the stage.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor is supporting Mamata Banerjee to fight the elections of West Bengal and it appears that he has also run out of plans to convince voters. As usual he fall back to getting the politicians to assert their Hindu identity. TMC was about to release its manifesto on the occasion of Mahashivratri but the programme has to be postponed after CM Mamata Banerjee suffered injuries while campaigning. She was also expected to hold a puja in morning in Nandigram forth releasing the manifesto of her party. Apparently she is being projected as ‘Shiv Bhakt’ to combat the BJP’s ‘Ram Bhakt’ image. In past also many such incidents had taken place. Remember in February in 2020 ahead of voting in Delhi assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister had visited the Hanuman Mandir at Delhi’s Connaught Place area to seek blessings or you can say to seek voters. Before that he was found chanting the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ on national television. Interestingly, Kejriwal too took support from Prashant Kishor to win the elections. So its not a surprise that Mamata Banerjee broke into a sudden ‘Chandi Paath’ during her rally.

Before Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2017, Rahul Gandhi assisted by Prashant Kishor went on temple runs. During 2017, Gujarat assembly elections Rahul Gandhi went to Somnath Temple and unintentionally registered his name under the Non-Hindu column. Rahul Gandhi then continued hi temple runs for many years, almost every time before elections as a part of his election trails. This lasted upto 2019 general elections where Congress faced a defeat despite their claim of Hindu identity.

After this much defeats, Congress however terminated their professional relationships with Prashant Kishor. But Kishor, however should change some of his old strategies to gain voters. As political temple run strategies may not have helped Rahul Gandhi, it may end up harming Mamata Banerjee.
