Oscar winner, Resul Pookutty revealed that he wanted to be a physicist and win a Nobel for India, but was equally glad that he won the Oscar. Resul won the Oscar for Best Sound Designing for the film Slumdog Millionaire.
“I’ve always loved science and wanted to pursue my studies in physics. Eventually I took up a course in sound engineering. That’s when I realised that this is so much more than engineering, and that this is what I love doing and this is what I want to do,” he said.
The master sound designer further said that festivals like the International Film Festival of India encouraged a filmmaker to hone his skills. “Such film festivals have encouraged me and helped bring me up to where I am today. I’m thankful and happy to be in Goa at IFFI again,” he said.
Resul launched the unique “Masterclass” programme in Goa as part of the International Film Festival of India wherein finer nuances of different aspects of film making will be discussed by eminent personalities in that particular field with those interested in the art of filmmaking.
Other masters lined up for this programme are Govind Nihalani on sound technology, Boman Irani on evolution of comedy in Indian cinema and James Javier on Flamenco dance and Flamenco in Spanish cinema.
