Shipping Minister G K Vasan has blamed the Goa government for the delay in constructing the four-lane highway connecting the Mormugao Port to Verna.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister said the project is getting delayed due to the uncooperative attitude of the State government.
The minister has said that the State government has failed to hand over vacant possession of the land on which the highway is to be constructed even though the Goa Bench of Bombay high Court had directed it to do so.
The minister suggested deploying an independent agency to explain the special package being offered to the illegal occupants of the land who are around 78 in number.
He said that of the 18.3 km stretch only the last 5.2 km stretch from Baina to Sada lies incomplete. He further disclosed that the Mormugao Port Trust has offered to pay the additional Rs 12 crore required to complete the project.
