Panaji, Apr 1 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Congress in Goa on Wednesday alleged that the internal power struggle between Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane was affecting relief work for Covid-19 in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Goa Congress Spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said, “This internal power struggle between the CM and Health Minister is responsible for the panic in Goa and hampering efforts to tackle the Covid-19 crisis. We demand that Sawant and Rane keep their politics aside and do not confuse the people. They seem to have no concern for the pandemic and are in a game of one-upmanship.”
On March 31, 2020, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the newly set up lab at Goa Medical College and Hospital for testing samples of Covid-19 patients developed snag as it had developed snags, within hours Health Minister Vishwajt Rane rejected statement of the Chief Minister and claimed that the laboratory was functioning and tests of samples were conducted.
Mr D’Mello said such confusion raised issues about the authenticity of the tests being conducted at the lab and demanded that the Chief Minister come out as to whose statement was correct.
”If the statement of the Health Minister is incorrect, it is high time the portfolio is taken away from him,” he said.
Earlier, on March 18, 2020, the Health Minister had said that a Norwegian national had tested Covid-19 positive but later retracted his statement, blaming a hoax call for the mistake.
