President of India Pratibha Patil arrived in Goa on Monday morning as a tourist just like the thousands of tourists from the world over who come to enjoy the climate here.
The President who arrived on a four day holiday in a special Air Force plane was given a civic reception by the Governor Dr. S S Sidhu, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Speaker Pratapsingh Rane, and others including officers of the Armed Forces given the fact that she is the chief commanding officer of the armed forces.
The president is accompanied by her husband Dr. Devising Shekhawat, her daughter Jyoti Rathore and granddaughter Vedika Rathore.
During her visit in Goa till 6th January, the President is scheduled to visit places normally visited by tourists like Colva Beach and Old Goa.
The police in Goa are in a tizzy as they are overstretched during this period of the year given the fact that it is the peak tourism season when there are fears of terrorists striking as they normally target tourist spots.
To make matters worse for them is the President’s arrival where besides her security concerns, traffic will have to be controlled and route taken by her be sanitized. This means that not only the local people, but even the tourists will be inconvenienced particularly when she visits Colva and Old Goa.
