New Delhi, Nov 15 (GCCurrentAffairs) President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday greeted the people of Jharkhand on its Statehood Day.
‘Congratulations and best wishes to the people of Jharkhand on the occasion of Foundation Day,’ said Mr Kovind in his tweet.
He said ‘Jharkhand is a state with rich natural resources and rich culture, which we are all proud of’ and wished that Jharkhand attains new heights of progress with the blessings of Lord Birsa Munda.
Mr Naidu also congratulated the people of Jharkhand on the occasion.
‘With it’s rich culture and abundant natural resources, Jharkhand has always had a unique place in India. My best wishes to the state for a prosperous future,’ he said in his tweet.
Jharkhand, which means ‘Bushland’ or ‘The land of forest’, attained statehood on November 15, 2000 when the Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000 was passed in Parliament.
The polls to the 81-member assembly in the Naxalism-affected state would be held in five phases from November 30 to December 20 and the counting would take place on December 23.
The Model Code of Conduct was now in force in the state. The five-year term of the state Assembly was set to expire on January 5, 2020.
