The All Goa Private Bus Owners Association on Sunday announced that private buses all over the State will stay off the roads on 22nd November, the day when schools in Goa are scheduled to re-open after the Diwali vacations.
The AGPBOA is protesting against the government’s decision to ban operation of private buses from the old bus stand at Margao. Private buses on certain routes like Ilha de Rachol and Cansaulim have been operating from the old bus stand even after the bus stand was shifted to the Maddel.
The authorities in a bid to ease traffic congestion in Margao, which was increasing by the day, has implemented various new schemes and systems from last week. For one, buses are no longer allowed to go around the MMC garden.
However, the AGPBOA has objected to the government’s decision to stop operation of buses from the old bus stand in what appears to be a rigid stand of not accepting any change.
Incidentally, the Margao Municipal Council has identified the old bus stand as one of the sites for erecting a multi-storeyed parking building and the bus operators will have to shift base if not today, tomorrow.
