Puducherry: Puducherry Road Transport Corporation(PRTC) bus services were affected on Monday as the contract workers resorted to a strike demanding the regularization of their service.
Apart from services to Tirupati, Kumuly, Mahe, Bengaluru, Nagercoil and Chennai, PRTC is also operating town services through mini-buses.
The government reportedly took a decision to sell several routes to private parties and the corporation workers were on an agitation demanding to drop the move.
More than 200 drivers and conductors were on contract basis and they resorted to a strike.
They gathered in front of the PRTC workshop behind the new bus stand and held a demonstration.
Following this, the town services were suspended.
Since, PRTC is operating inter-state routes with permanent staff, the services will not be affected, sources said.
