Residents of Ilha de Rachol grilled their Sarpanch Joseph Vaz for not holding the ordinary gram sabhas for an entire year. As per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, every panchayat is supposed to hold four ordinary gram sabhas during the year.
The first gram Sabha after a year that was held on Sunday saw the Sarpanch being taken to task. In fact he was not allowed to proceed until the incomplete business of the previous gram Sabha held in February 2010 was first disposed off.
The Sarpanch had no answers to the questions asked by the villagers and would only ask them to approach the higher authorities.
The Sarpanch also faced flak for not placing the proposal to construct a panchayat ghar before the gram Sabha while seeking its consent to construct a community hall at the cost of Rs. 94 lakh.
