Rahul Gandhi comes out in support of activists arrested in alleged plot to assassinate PM Modi

In a direct attack on the Narendra Modi-led government and in a showcase of solidarity with alleged Maoists leaders arrested under suspicion of links to a plot to kill the Prime Minister of India, Congress President Rahul Gandhi stated that there is only place for one NGO in India, which is the RSS.

In a post on social media, Rahul said the arrest of the activists was the present government’s definition of ‘the new India’.

‘There is only place for one NGO in India and it’s called the RSS. Shut down all other NGOs. Jail all activists and shoot those that complain. Welcome to the new India,’ he tweeted.

Those arrested include Maoist ideologue Varavara Rao, lawyer Sudha Bharadwaj, activists Arun Ferreira, Gautam Navlakha and Vernon Gonzalves.

The raids were carried out in Delhi, Faridabad, Goa, Mumbai, Ranchi and Hyderabad. The arrest of the activists has evoked sharp reactions from the Congress and the Left parties.
