Rahul Gandhi not to join Dr Manmohan Singh’s government

While many of the youth brigade owing allegiance to Rahul Gandhi will be making their pressence felt in the new Union cabinet re-shuffle, has learnt through reliable sources in United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and All India Congress Committee (AICC) that the much-touted inclusion of Rahul Gandhi into the Dr Manmohan Singh cabinet is not going to happen as the Congress general secretary would like to continue to work for the party from within.

Gandhi is expected to be elevated to the Working President of the Congress party. But the Rahul imprint will be clearly visible with Ministers of State Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Jitendra Singh, Daggubati Purandeswari, Vincent H Pala, RPN Singh, Jitin Prasada, Rajeev Shukla, Manicka Tagore and Meenakshi Natarajan being promoted.

The obvious purpose of the cabinet rejig is to get the party battle field fit ahead of 2014. The logic appears to be that with young ministers there is limited negative baggage and could counter opposition onslaught against the Congress party.

Sources also indicate that an overwhelming majority of ministers will be in positions that have been approved by Rahul. It is done keeping with the desire of the Congress general secretary playing an increasingly central role in the working of the party and the government which he could well lead into the 2014 General Elections.
