Around 500 people under the banner of India Against Corruption (Goa Joins) and Bharat Swabhiman marched under the scorching sun from Azad Maidan to Caculo Island and back on Sunday to pledge their participation in the battle against corruption.
At a meeting held after the march, 12 resolutions including four pertaining to Goa were adopted. The crowd demanded that the Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta bills be passed immediately to bring about transparency and accountability in governance.
Besides, the crowd also demanded that the Directors of Goa Industrial Development Corporation who allotted 40 lakh square meters of land by circumventing all procedures and rules to SEZ promoters should be taken to task and punished.
Freedom Fighter Naguesh Karmali urged the people to fight against corruption as it has to be fought by the people themselves. Dr. Venkatesh Hegde of the Art of Living lamented that people are being forced to fight against their own breed.
Kamlesh Bandekar of Bharat Swabhiman asserted that the fight against corruption would get stronger and set a deadline of three months for the government to meet their demands.
Dr. Oscar Rebello who coordinated the rally said it was time to explore other options to fight corruption.
