Rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal claims to be COVID-19 positive

Jalandhar: A day after a Kerala Trial Court ordered cancellation of his bail and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, his Public Relation Officer (PRO) Father Peter has informed certain sections of the Indian media that the senior clergyman of the Archdiocese of Jalandhar has tested positive for COVID-19.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal is the first senior clergyman of the Catholic Church of India to be arrested on accusations of raping and sodomising a 44-year old nun 13-times from 2014 to 2016. He was granted bail last year but his failure to appear in the Trial Court case for a record 14-times has now got his bail cancelled and a non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued against him.

Bishop Franco even approached the Kerala High Court to have the case in the Trial Court squashed but his petition was dismissed without admission on grounds that his case should continue in the Kottayam Trial Court.

“This appears to be another delay tactic adopted by the rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal. It is also an attempt to get sympathy for his heinous crime. But it is only a matter of time, when justice will catch up with Bishop Franco for his unpardonable crime of rape and sodomy of a nun,” express Savio Rodrigues, President, All India Christian Forum.
