Kashinath Shetye and 12 others who had filed the complaint before the Judicial Magistrate First Class seeking a direction to the Police to act in the Sunil Gudlar matter, on Monday complained to the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances court that Home Minister Ravi Naik was using the police to intimidate them.
In the complaint, they stated that Police Inspector Sudesh Naik at the behest of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shamba Sawant and Superintendent of Police Mangaldas Dessai had threatened them to withdraw the case filed by them.
They said that on 12th January, Sudesh Naik visited some of them living in South Goa and urged them to withdraw the complaint or at least delete the name of Roy Naik, Ravi Naik’s son. The complaint further notes that they were assured of being handsomely rewarded if they complied with the request to withdraw the case.
The further alleged that they have been placed under police surveillance
It may be recalled that the activists in their petition before the JMFC had named Roy as a person having a substantial presence in the drug trade in Goa.
The activists have now asked the court to direct the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the role of all people alleged to be involved in the trade or having links with drug lords including former Superintendent of Police Veenu Bansal and Roy Naik.
