Puducherry, May 3 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday urged the government to check private schools to prevent collection of more tuition fees than prescribed by it.
In a statement here, BJP State President V Saminathan MLA (nominated) said even after two years of the government fixing tution fees for private schools and posting it in Education Department website, it was not being implemented till date.
In Puducherry, the people are spending 30 percent of their earning towards school fees for their children. While, in Tamil Nadu, a maximum of Rs.15,000 is being collected as tuition fees for plus two while, in Puducherry Rs one lakh is collected right from LKG to 12th standard.
There is apprehension in the minds of people that Chief Minister V Narayanasamy is being bribed by the private school owners, besides giving donations at the time of elections.
Mr Saminathan cautioned that if the government failed to check schools and cancel its licence for collecting more tution fees in a week ,the BJP would organize agitations in front of such schools and education department.
He said in the guise of enhancing quality of education, private schools are pushing parents in to a debt trap. No action was taken against the schools which collected ten fold more than the prescribed tuition fees, he added.
Alleging that the Narayanasamy government is yet to implement the RTE Act which ensures 25 percent reservation for poor students, Mr Saminathan exhorted parents to come forward to organize agitation on the lines of Tamil Nadu against such schools for which the BJP would extend its full support.
