Pointing out that the RP 2001 has a higher FAR (floor area ratio) which will benefit the builders, GBA Convener Sabina Martins informed that the RP 2021 has a lower FAR besides also having eco-zones that have been clearly marked.
The GBA also accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of acting at the behest of the builders lobby.
Chief Minister had announced on Monday that he would revert to the Regional Plan 2001 and re-notify it by next week. Reacting to this announcement, the Pilerne Citizens Forum (PCF) said that they would like to go back to the draft regional plan, while the GBA stated that the RP 2021 should continue to remain in force while a new plan is being prepared and corrections being made.
Reacting to the chief minister’s announcement, Dr Oscar Rebello opined that the best way forward would be to keep the RP 2021 in force, freeze the eco-zones and extra projects not recommended by the village panchayats should be removed.
PCF President Prakash Bandodkar demanded that the government should draw up a new plan by sending the existing RP 2021 back to the people for changes and corrections.
Meanwhile the Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) has demanded that the permissions on constructions should be freezed except those for single dwelling units.
