Rickshaw, Taxi Fare Rates Hiked

With the State Transport Department recommending a hike of 15 to 20 per cent in the rates, fares charged by auto rickshaws and taxis are likely to go up. The Department has approved the hike after studying the increase in prices of fuel and spare parts.
The fares charged at the moment are based on the base prices of 2006 and since then, as prices have shot up, the Department has approved a fare hike for these public transport vehicles.

Transport Director Arun Dessai pointed out that as against the 100 per cent hike demanded by taxi and auto rickshaw operators, the department has recommended an increase of only 15 to 20 per cent even though the prices of diesel and spares has risen by 25 to 35 per cent.
